4 years ago, we rescued our dog Winnie. She was born in Rosarito, Mexico and found by a volunteer of The Baja Animal Sanctuary at 5 months old. At the shelter, Winnie fended for herself and started to show food aggression. At 7 months old, she crossed the border to San Diego to live with her first family that had two dogs living in the home.
Winnie attacked both of the dogs and the owner was forced to give her back to her foster care. Since our previous dog was also aggressive with other dogs, our family was already accustomed to a single dog home. The trauma of living on the streets and transitioning from a shelter to foster homes really caused major anxiety in her. When she came to live with us, she had physical signs of altercations that included a cloudy white spot in one of her eyes and a swollen cheek. She had major digestive issues that included diarrhea in the beginning, then constipation & bad breath. She was high energy and during walks, she would pull uncontrollably & scream bloody murder to any other dog she saw.
The visits to the vet were no different and triggered my own anxiety. After she turned one, we started giving her a CBD Isolate in a tincture form. We started by giving it to her in the morning and in the evening along with a pre & probiotic in her food. The first noticeable change was in her digestion, she stopped having diarrhea and constipation, her stool was healthy. The white cloud on her cornea started to shrink. After a month, her breath improved and her anxiety lessened.
After 3 months of taking the tincture 2 times per day, the scar on her cheek healed, and the white cloud on her cornea disappeared. When we started to travel, we took Winnie to a camp to see if she would do well with other dogs. We sent her to there with her CBD oil that her counselor was happy to administer. Winnie did not do well with the other campers and was often removed from the yard. However, her report cards from her counselors came back with positive notes about her loving behavior with humans. After a few failed attempts at camp, we finally decided to travel with her.
The CBD oil has become a staple in many situations like long car rides, sleepovers, long hikes, camping and when we have company. Winnie now takes the oil straight on her tongue and she loves the taste. Her anxiety has improved; she now loves car rides, walks, hikes, and only yells at a few dogs she thinks are weaker than her. The trips to her birthplace of Mexico, is where she feels the most comfortable and has found a few furry friends. We recently bought her some CBD vegan treats that she loves and we definitely see the difference in her mood, her digestion, her skin and her coat. For Winnie, CBD oil is a daily supplement that has improved her physical and mental health. Winnie loves her family, her home, and is the most affectionate and grateful dog we have ever had. She gives CBD 2 paws up!
